Learn 2 Cook

Randeen put together a new toy for us at the daycare to enjoy - a Learn 2 Cook Kitchen!!  We will have hours of fun creating wonderful, tasty concoctions.

Music Play

Music play is a great way to learn numeracy and literacy skills, and a lot of fun!! It also gives everyone exercise on really cold days when it's difficult to go outside.

Farm Frenzy

Farming and animals tend to be common play themes for many of the children at Susan's.

Snow Angels

Snow has fallen upon our community over the last month. Children have had fun playing outside in this new wonderland and creating crafts with a winter theme. Here they made snow angels:

They tried to make some outside but a little freezing rain that covered our snow one day made that a little difficult. :)

It's bird week!! The children have been looking various birds this week (chickadees, robins, bluejays and ravens) and making crafts/doing activities with regards to this theme (they have also gotten very good at making the sounds of each bird). Here they are chickadees:

Winter Wonderland

We had our first snowfall this past weekend and the children had their first enjoyment of playing in the snow at Susan's. We always make sure we bundle up so we stay warm!!

Halloween at Susan's

Today children celebrated Halloween at Susan's. They participated in a variety of activities (as illustrated below) and had a fantabulous time!! We hope everyone had a safe and fun time trick-or-treating!! :)
Carving Pumpkins

Thanks to one of our client's parents, we were able to acquire enough pumpkins for each child to carve into a jack-o-lantern. They LOVED pulling out the "guts" and creating fun faces (there was even a princess pumpkin). We lit our jack-o-lanterns and then used them as our light during dance time. We also cooked the seeds and had them as part of our afternoon snack.

Bobbing for Apples

Everyone had to bob for their snack today (a yummy apple). Many learned quite quickly to reach for the stem as opposed to chasing the apple around the tub. Once everyone caught their snack, they enjoyed it with a caramel dipping sauce.

Pin the Nose on the Jack-o-Lantern

Blinfolded, children tried to pin their nose closest to the center of the jack-o-lantern.

Pumpkin Smashing

Using pieces of wet paper towel, the children tried to "smash" the pumpkin.

Eyeball Rolling

Children tried to shoot eyeballs into a bucket and then rolled them back and forth to a partner.

Children at Susan Cares 4 Kids practiced fine motor skills while creating fun Halloween necklaces.

Painted Jack-O-Lanterns

One of the crafts today was paper plate jack-o-lanterns. The kids LOVED painting the plates and then getting to create the "scary" face. :)

The Letter I

We have been studying the letter I this week. Children have worked with, investigated and created items that begin with the letter I. Some of the many activities with the letter I that they enjoyed were making igloos from marshmallows and having an ice cream snack.

New Toys = Creativity

Whenever we get new toys at Susan's, we always use our imagination to play with them to their full extent. Here, lacrosse sticks became horses, trumpets, fishing poles, baby holders and more!! :)

Facing Fears

We persevere and face our fears at Susan's. After many weeks of attempts, one of us finally made his way onto the play structure. Congratulations!!! We're proud of you. :)

Cooking in the Kitchen

We got some new toys at Susan's - kitchen food and cooking tools. We love playing kitchen and making wonderful concoctions for everyone to "try". ;)

Let's Make a Deal

Everyone had a wonderful day at the park today! One of the rules at Susan's is you need to try to eat your snack before you get to play. Some found this not a problem, while others figured they shouldn't eat before playing. :) Hence, "Let's Make a Deal" derived from this!!
