Baby Spring Animals

It's baby spring animal week!  Children will be looking at various baby animals that we usually see in spring.  Today they started with baby chicks.  Yellow feathers were abundant as chicks peeped up here and there!

Waiting for Spring

Signs of spring are something we are lacking outside right now (especially with the new snow fall just recently  that covered up any grass that was even trying to peek out of shovelled areas).  So, the children at Susan's are creating "Signs of Spring" themselves - since they aren't coming on their own.  Last week they made various crafts around the theme "birds" and "nests".  It's always fun to see new nests made and to watch for baby birds to arrive.  Last year a robin made her nest right beside Susan's so we were able to see the nest created, the eggs in the nest and see the baby birds hatch.  Well at Susan's many little "hatchings" occurred this week as children cut, coloured, pasted, rolled, etc. to make beautiful art projects.  We will continue to keep our eyes out for the first real robin (a sure sign of spring)!!

Thematic weeks based on holidays are always fun as there are tons of activities, crafts and games that children can participate in.  This week, children make Easter crowns, played stacking bunny games, had puppet shows with homemade stick puppets, made Easter baskets and much more!  From everyone one at Susan Cares 4 Kids we wish you a Happy Easter!! See you on Tuesday :)

Easter Rabbits

Easter is only a week away!! The children are excited for egg hunts, colouring/dying eggs, eating chocolate and doing various activities related to the holiday.  On Friday they decided to masquerade as Easter bunnies and created adorable masks with pastel colours.  Of course the adults have to get in on the fun too!

Snow Play

Well....it's March 22nd and yes, we still have MOUNDS and MOUNDS of snow!!  Although it's getting tiring already and we really, really want spring to come, it doesn't stop the children at Susan's from taking a little pleasure in it.  Just down the street from us is an area where graders have piled up snow.  The children refer to this area as "The Mountains" (oh, the perspective of a child - however, since the melting process hasn't started it's beginning to feel like snow mountains to us adults as well).  Friday the children took their sleds and had a grand ol' time running, jumping, bouncing in the snow, sliding down in and creating a snow fort.  It was a wonderful morning full of fun and sunshine!

Happy St Patrick's Day

With this coming Sunday being St Patrick's Day, Susan's was a week filled with many crafts related to this holiday.  Between little lively leprechauns to pots of gold to rainbows and headbands the children had a lot of fun making these items while learning about St. Patrick's Day.

R is for Raccoon

Children at Susan's have been hard at work learning their alphabet letters.  Every day is a new letter with a related theme and once a week a number from 1-10 is introduced.  Friday was R for Raccoon day.  Here are the cute little bandits the children created:

A Big Mess??

Panic in the eyes of a child as the words "Something spilled and made a huge mess in the toy room" were spouted out led us to wonder.....Why didn't we hear anything when this big mess was supposedly made?  Upon checking it out, this is what we found!! (No wonder the big mess was a silent one lol).

Game Time

Susan and Whitney brought out games this afternoon for the children to play.  These games included many early years concepts such as counting and alphabet letters.  The children had a blast playing the games and using their skills.

Eric Carle's "The Alphabet Game" - practising counting (using a spinner) and recognizing/naming alphabet letters.

"Frustration" - counting to 6 and identifying numbers with actions
