Butterflies

Its bug week!  Spring in Saskatchewan means bugs are soon to follow.  Between woodticks, ants, bees, wasps and butterflies, we have many creepy crawlers in our nature world.  This week the children are studying the various critters with today being butterfly day.  Check out our beautiful flying butterflies:

Park Play

With the beautiful weather we've been able to get out more often and longer to enjoy the fresh air and get tons of exercise.  This week we spent time at the park playing on the equipment, exploring all we can do and having a grand ol' time!!

Flower Crafts

Now that the snow has all melted and rain has begun to fall, we are starting to see flowers bloom in our yards and neighbourhood.  Therefore, we've spent time making flower crafts/art.  It's always fun at Susan's because our crafts/art usually involve various mediums (tissue paper, paint, crayons, etc.) and we get to use our hands AND feet. ;)

Ladybug Week

Well spring has sprung in our area of the world (finally!!).  Birds are singing, snow is all gone, robins are hopping about looking for worms, grass is beginning to turn green and the ladybugs are out!  Thus was our inspiration for ladybug week at Susan's.  The children made pictures with fingerprint ladybugs (we found out that ladybugs can be red, orange and yellow) and impersonated ladybugs with hats designed to disguise us as such.

Snowmen in May?!?!

What does one do at Susan's on May 1st in Saskatchewan?  That's right....BUILD SNOWMEN!!  Bet you didn't guess that would be a "springtime" activity for the children at Susan's.  But alas, it was!  Returning our splash pants and rubber boots to the depths of the lockers, we pulled our ski pants and boots back out and proceeded to have a grand ole time in the snow today.  Fingers crossed that it melts fast as we're getting tired of dressing up in winter clothes to play outside.

Oh Spring....Where Art Thou???

It's been an extremely LONG winter here!  Just when you think it's going to be spring, BAM!  More snow!  Well, we have decided to try something at Susan's to try and bring spring here.  Lately the children have been doing spring themed crafts - namely blossoming trees.  Using various mediums - paint, stickers, construction paper, markers, tissue paper - the children have created cherry blossom and hand-print trees.  It was fun watching the children explore how paint can spread using your air and a straw (it was also mandatory to have a blow out vs suck in conversation and demonstration prior to beginning this activity too!).

Little Artists

Painting is always an enjoyable activity!  With paint shirts donned and brushes, water, paper, paints and fingers readily available, the children set to work making various works of art during these past couple of weeks.  It's fun watching what will emerge from a single, blank piece of paper.  The creativity that children possess is unyielding!

Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?

During our baby animal week, the children made brown bear masks.  These along with the story "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?"  made for an interesting afternoon of observations through the eyes of a "bear".
