Groundhog Week

With Groundhog Day coming up on February 2nd, the theme at Susan's this week is groundhogs.  Today the children made a groundhog craft, looked at groundhog pictures and read books with groundhog characters.  They have also been talking about what it means when the groundhog sees its shadow.

It's My Party

We celebrated another birthday today and got to enjoy yet more cupcakes!!  Happy 3rd Birthday!!

Dress-Up

Yesterday children dug into the costumes Susan has and dressed up as various characters, from pirates to puppies.  They have great imaginations and always have fun making up interesting games together.

Happy Birthday

We celebrated a couple of birthdays this week (a little belated) for a couple of great young boys who turned 5 and 4 over the last few weeks.  Congratulations!!  One is quite excited to be heading to Kindergarten in the fall.

Activity Pods

Children at students participated in activity pods one day. They got to partake in various activities and rotated through the various stations which was a lot of fun and gave them a chance to work with others in small group settings.

Wheels on Laminate

Today we learned the effects of wheels and force.  When a car is pushed on laminate floor, the wheels help it roll quite well and often the car will not stop before it reaches the couch.  Hence, a small vehicle will end up underneath if rolled with too much force. :)

B-I-N-G-O

Through the game of B-I-N-G-O, children learn picture identification and the concept of rows & columns along with directional words (up, down, across, side to side).

Penguin Week

Children have been learning about penguins this week and doing many activities (ie. crafts) related to the theme. They learned where penguins are from, what types of penguins there are, and many interesting facts about penguins.

Reading Together

We LOVE it when children read together. It's great to here the developing conversation as they talk about the pictures and "discuss" what is happening in the story.

Being Polar Bears

The children created masks today and imitated being a polar bear.

Polar Bear, Polar Bear

In keeping with winter themes, today children read books about polar bears and did a polar bear craft. One interesting fact we learned about polar bears is that they have black skin (it helps absorb the sun's rays to keep them warm).
